Request for cards for 16 year old girl facing mastectomy next week.

Friends,

I received the message below via email from a friend. My friend’s babysitter know’s the family in question in Chillicothe, Ohio.

TODAY – Today I received a phone call from a hysterical mother who had just been informed that her 16 year old daughter had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I cannot disclose the name of this child due to client and patient confidentiality, but the mother has requested prayer from all of you for her family. I have a very instinctive feeling that this little girl will become known to all of you soon and will save many, many lives of others because of her diagnosis at such a young age. She is a strong and vibrant young gal and will surely – MOST surely – become an ambassador – spreading the word that cancer doesn’t discriminate between young or old, black or white, poor or rich. God is good. We have to focus on Him and know that HE is in control.

PLAN – What I am thinking is this. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to SHOWER this little gal with cards of hope and caring from everywhere? Words of inspiration, or just a simple “thinking of you” note is all that is needed. The idea would be to mail them in care of Southern Ohio Survivors (SOS is the phone number that the Mom called today for help) and I will box everything up and she can open them in the hospital after her Mastectomy, which is scheduled for mid-next week. She has told very few of her friends, and the prayer chains only know her age – so she will be so blessed to receive all of these wonderful wishes of hope and love. Notes to “Mom” would be gratefully received, also. She blames herself because of something that she must have done “wrong” as a Mom – and we all know that this is not how it happened.

If you are so inclined to participate in this venture, PLEASE write a note or send a card right away to: Southern Ohio Survivors, 32 S. Paint Street, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601. In the left hand corner of the envelope, please draw a small heart shape so that I will know NOT to open the envelope. SOS receives other correspondence at that address, and I don’t want to open a personal card to this child or her mother. Remember, surgery is in one week or so.

Southern Ohio Survivors is planning to assist the family in some way financially. Mom will not be able to work while her daughter recuperates and does not get paid if she does not work. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, they needed to cut back on many of the expenses that most of us take for granted. If you feel inclined to donate any amount to this family, please address the envelope to: Southern Ohio Survivors, c/o L Bunstine, 32 South Paint Street, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601. The SOS Board of Directors will purchase gift cards from local Chillicothe establishments to help make life a bit easier for them over the next two or so months.

At this time, please PRAY that the cancer will be completely removed with the surgery, that the surgeon’s hands will be guided by our Heavenly Father, and that there will be no cancer involvement in other parts of her body.

LASTLY, please feel free forward to send this note on to others that you may know. Wouldn’t it be awesome if she received cards from other areas besides Chillicothe?
