How to find a job in Cleveland.

With the current tough economic environment family, friends and clients have all been feeling the pinch.  I am getting daily calls from people wondering what the Cleveland job market looks like and if I can help.  The short story is that yes it's tough out there right now, but there are companies that are hiring.  It seems as if small and medium sized businesses that perhaps don't have to constantly demonstrate shareholder value are faring a little better.  I wanted to pull together a one stop shop resource for those looking for opportunities in Cleveland - so here is the first draft - I hope it proves useful.

First for some good news - Northeast Ohio ranks fourth in corporate headquarters nationally - behind St Louis, New York and San Francisco.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn.com is a tremendous resource.  More and more business people are using it to stay connected with colleagues, reconnect with former colleagues, do market research and to get a better rounded picture of potential candidates and business partners.  Here are some good articles on using LinkedIn.

Cleveland LinkedIn Groups include the following - search on the name of the group in the Group search tab - or search on a keyword that is of interest to you to find relevent groups.

Job Search Engines

There are a number of job boards out there from paid such as TheLadders.com that specializes in 6 figure salaries through Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com to local job boards like careerboard.com and consulting focused boards like Dice.com. You can also try Cleveland.employmentguide.comUSAjobs.com has US Government jobs.   SimplyHired.com is a nice aggregate engine that searches multiple boards and presents the results.  It also shows you new jobs within your search terms since you last searched and has a nifty job research function that will give you an understanding of the market for your skillset
